A passport that stays
with the piece.

The furniture passport is still a few years away. What customers and repairers need is already clear: materials, finishes, care, spare parts and how to take a piece apart. Collect it once, publish it behind one QR code and keep it up to date.

What applies now.

Rules that already apply, whatever your plans for a passport.

Since 13 December 2024

Safety information in the listing

Under the General Product Safety Regulation, online listings must show the manufacturer’s name and postal and electronic address, the EU responsible person where the manufacturer is outside the EU, product identification and warnings or safety information. This has to be in the listing itself. A link to a passport does not replace it.

Green claims need proof

EU countries must apply the green claims rules of Directive (EU) 2024/825 from this date. Generic environmental claims such as “eco-friendly” are banned unless you can show recognised excellent environmental performance, and so are sustainability labels that are not based on a certification scheme or set by public authorities. There is no exemption for small businesses.

A product sheet in France, for larger brands

Producers with a turnover above €10 million that place more than 10,000 units a year on the French market must publish a product sheet on environmental characteristics, on a dedicated web page in a machine-readable format. Both thresholds apply together, and the rule covers clothing, furniture, electronics and many other categories.

What comes later.

Passport rules arrive product group by product group. Dates for rules that are not adopted yet are indicative.

What Polarpass covers

  • a public passport per model, or per item with a serial number for one-off pieces;
  • prompts for materials, care, repair, spare parts and recycling;
  • documents and certificates, each public or kept internal;
  • customer pages in English, Dutch, German and French, with no app needed to scan;
  • reviewed updates behind the same QR code, with a published version history.

What it does not do

Polarpass does not:

  • decide which rules apply to you, or certify compliance;
  • check your claims or documents against the law;
  • offer a separate access level for repairers, recyclers or authorities. Information is public or stays internal;
  • add safety information to your shop listings;
  • follow a final furniture data model, because the act does not exist yet.
